DEPARTMENT 41 - TRACTOR PULL
Superintendent - FARM TRACTOR GENERAL RULES:
1. Contest open to rubber tire tractors, with
two-wheel drive, no duals or tire chains. No
traction assist. Differential lock must remain
open, Cut tires are allowed - top bar can be cut
as desired, but you cannot cut or touch the front
face (edge) of the lug. Tire width limited to
18.4 inches.
2. Tractors must be a brand name. No alter
ations that would change the appearance from
original. Specifications, except wheel, weights,
weight brackets, safety equipment and except
where the rules specify changes.
3. All tractors must have a hood, grille, fend
ers, carb to be stock appearing, the injection
pump to be stock in appearance, OEM muf
flers, or straight pipes.
4. All tractors using turbo's with straight
pipes, must have them exhausting vertical.
5. Scale weigh-in includes the driver.
6. All weights must be stationary, and safely
secured to tractor (No Bungee Straps
Allowed.) If anything should fall off from the
tractor (weights or parts) while hooked to the
sled you will be disqualified immediately.
7. Drivers may run any gear and may shift at
anytime while hooked in forward motion. Farm
tractors shall not operate more than 15% over
factory rated RPM and horsepower shall not
exceed 5 MPH.
a. You will be allowed two (2) excess
speed limit warning blasts of the hom.
The third time even if the horn squeaks
you will b immediately disqualified.
b. The maximum duration each time the
horn blows (squeaks) will be limited to
three (3) seconds. The head track judge will operate a stopwatch for verification of the duration.
8. All or any RPM adjustments must be made
at the pump or governor; including pump &
governor linkage, while standing on the
ground. Any tractor founu with devises that
control the set RPM for their class at the seat
will be immediately disqualified. No gas
lever/foot pedal levers are allowed to have
adjustment^ hy the driver, from the seat.
a. RP1'. ;.: Puller may run a maximum of 20% over Nebraska test high idle speed. PTO and or crankshaft/flywheel speed will be checked after pulling by TTPA Tech Inspector. All pullers must have reflective tape fastened to their flywheel or crankshaft for east visibility for the TTPA Tech.
9. All tractors must have brakes that work.
10. The hitch hooking point must have at
least a 6 inch clearance window in all direc
tions as viewed from the sled hooking position.
11. Tractors may reweigh after each pull as
requested by pull track officials/judges.
12. Drawbar hitch supports are not allowed
to exceed above the centerline of the rear axle.
(See wheelie bar sketch for clarification.)
13. Maximum drawbar height of twenty (20)
inches as measured from the top of the drawbar
to the ground and rigid in all directions. Must
have a three (3) inch opening hole, with the
back edge of the hole a minimum of eighteen
(18) inches behind the centerline of the rear
axle. The pulling chain hook point may not be
more then one and one-half (1 1/2) inches from
back edge of drawbar/hitch device.
14. Two fl" grade 8 bolts or turnbuckles will
be allowed to be used to the support frame that
controls the height of the primary pulling hitch.
15. No turnbuckle(s) can, or will be allowed
to be fastened off the rear of the tractor to sup
port the primary pulling drawbar.
16. No riders are permitted on tractor at any
time, while in motion or with the engine run-r ning at any time on the pull-site.
17. Pulling position is determined by the luck of the draw.
18. Contestant must pull in the position
drawn, within one (1) minute of the time after
the sled is in the pulling position, and ready to
be pulled. Any delay will mean disqualifica
tion.
19. No vertical hitches/drawbars.
20. First puller or test puller may come back
and pull first or as the 4th puller. Decision must
be made before unhooking from the sled.
21. Must run only stock fuels - gas, diesel, or
LP (No alcohol or nitrous) or mixing of any
fuels or additives.

a. Maximum distance from pad to the
ground is 10 inches.
b. Pad must extend a minimum of 1 inch
beyond a vertical line formed at the
back edge of the tire at its center
horizontally.
c. Bars must be able to support the
weight of the tractor in its heaviest
class when jack is placed under each
pad. THIS TILL BE ENFORCED. (Not
leaf spring extending straight out from
horizontal drawbar.)
d. It is recommended that wheelie bars
not be connected in any way to the
drawbar.
e. Wheelie bar diagrams available from
tech inspectors.
23. Farm tractors may only pull once in each
class, but may be entered in more than one
weight category.
24. ALL TRACTORS .WILL APPEAR
STOCK.
25. Tech inspectors are Gary Heberling,
Robert Smith, Greg Smith, and Dave Metzger.

26. Only one pull allowed unless a tie is
declared or the tractor reaches the end bound
ary. Pull is ended when weight transfer
machine passes 75 ft. mark, or when the tractor
or weight transfer machine goes over the side
boundary. No hole digging. Driver must stop
for motion or flagman or be disqualified.
27. Participants shall not be under the influ
ence of alcohol or drugs. Any evidence will
lead to disqualification.
28. The contestant will not hold the
Northwestern Michigan Fair, Thumb Tractor
Pulling Association, or individuals connected
with the contest responsible for damage, injury
or theft.
29. The contest is governed by judges with
all decisions final. Judges have the right to
accept, reject or disqualify tractors before or
after weighing or during the pull if it is being
operated unsafely or is not built for safety or if
the rules are not being followed.
